GIVE A CHILD A CHRISTMAS

.

Local man, Rod Howat, was so moved by the plight of children in Bosnia and how they had been affected by the after effects of the war that he moved from Glossop to Bosnia 20 years ago in order to help them.  Rod has founded Out of the Ashes and has made it his mission in life to bring happiness to the street children and orphans of Tuzla.  Every year Rod travels from Bosnia to Glossop, funding his trips from his own pension in order to collect toys and clothing for those children and young people who desperately need his help.  As Rod has little money to spare, he often sleeps in his van on these trips and says he has taught himself to sleep sitting up behind his steering wheel!

The traders of Glossop Outdoor Market are full of admiration for what Rod is doing and we are supporting him all the way and we hope you will too.  To do this we are collecting toys for Rod to take with him this year so we are asking you to get the kids to have a good sort out and donate any unwanted toys to this good cause.  There will be a collecting box on the outdoor market throughout November and the beginning of December for your donations - no money please.  The box will be located at Bookworm, the book cabin which is next door to the outside cafe.

Thanks in advance to everyone from all of the traders at Glossop Outdoor Market.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD AT GLOSSOP OUTDOOR MARKET

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse International and they were at Glossop Outdoor Market today talking to customers and traders about the very important work which they do.   A big thank you to the traders from the outdoor market for donating so generously to this very worthy cause.

By sending out shoe boxes full of gifts they bring joy and hope to many desperate children throughout the world.  If you wish to help out by donating something or filling a shoe box with small items suitable for a child, the traders from the outdoor market have volunteered to be a collection point and we will also drop off your gifts and boxes direct to the organisers.   The video speaks for itself, please help by giving what you can.

CHRISTMAS CAKES FROM GILL AND KEVIN

Gill and Kevin have been traders on Glossop Outdoor Market for over 40 years now and they always have a selection of mouthwatering cakes, biscuits and other goodies for sale.  During the run up to Christmas we advise you to shop as early as you can because bargains like the Christmas cake shown above for £4.00 won't be around for long.  You might also fancy trying the mini minced pies which are excellent value at just £1.00 for 4 packs (each pack contains 6 pies).  When we checked out the pies in Tesco they retailed at £1.55 for a 12 pack!

Gill and Kevin are on the market every Friday and Saturday what ever the weather to provide you with luxury goods at bargain prices.

TOYS NOW ON SALE AT GLOSSOP OUTDOOR MARKET

GLOSSOP CHRONICLE TO BE RE-LAUNCHED THIS THURSDAY

All of the traders from Glossop Outdoor Market would like to wish the new look Glossop Chronicle all the best for it's re-launch this week.  Over the years we have always had an excellent relationship with The Chronicle and were very sad to hear, a few weeks ago, that it was closing down after such a long time as Glossop's only local newspaper.  You can imagine our delight now that it's being re-launched with a totally new look and we hope it continues to be printed for many years to come.

SNEAK PREVIEW OF THIS WEEKS BLOG POSTS

This week on Glossop Outdoor Market blog we are planning on introducing you all to some of the local, small businesses in the Glossop area.  We hope to feature a different small business every day this week and introduce you to the owners who provide fantastic personal service just for you - something you won't get in the large multi-national supermarket chains.

We've also got some wonderful bargains for you from the market itself to tempt you to do some early Christmas shopping with us.

OUT AND ABOUT IN GLOSSOP

The new Marks and Spencer food outlet is now open in Glossop and is just across the road from the outdoor market.  With free parking for 2 hours you've got plenty of time to have a wander round the market after you've been to M & S!  Just follow the market signs and you'll find us nestling behind the municipal buildings.

We've also got a new newspaper in Glossop, The Glossop Gazette.  It comes out every fortnight and is priced at 90 pence and the good thing about it that it contains all local news and no advertising.  If you fancy yourself as a budding reporter they are looking for people to write in with local news items and I'm sure they will appreciate all the support that local people can give to them as they are a small, independent, Glossop based company.

GLOSSOP ROUGE FROM DERBYSHIRE WINERY

Our friends from The Derbyshire Winery were at the Local Produce Market on Saturday with a new wine called Glossop Rouge.  It's a delicious, fruity red which goes well with red meat.  At under £6.00 per bottle it's extremely good value and is comparable with wines costing far more than that.  You can find The Derbyshire Winery online at www.thederbyshirewinery.co.uk

A big thanks from me for the bottle of Glossop Rouge which these guys gave me on Saturday, it went down very nicely thank you.

BARGAIN OF THE WEEK FROM NICHE MARKIT

Beautiful, solid wood butchers block from Niche Markit is our bargain of the week and at just £40 it's a snip!  For ease of storage this butchers block can't be beat as it can be folded flat when not in use making it ideal for the smaller kitchen.
