LIGHT SWITCH ON IS TONIGHT IN GLOSSOP

EARLY SEASONS GREETINGS FROM THE FESTIVITIES WEEKEND COMMITTEE

SPARE A THOUGHT FOR OTHERS THIS CHRISTMAS

We're all looking forward to the festivities this weekend in Glossop but we wanted to take a few minutes of your time to remind you to spare a thought for those who are less fortunate than we are and who, for one reason or another, are dreading the festive season.  Make an extra portion of your favourite dish and give it to the pensioner up the street who is struggling to make ends meet and can't afford a hot meal every day.  Pop in to see that neighbour who lives alone and rarely goes out.  Pass on an unused blanket or duvet to the old lady who can't afford to keep warm with the rising cost of fuel.  Buy an extra can of food when you go to the supermarket and donate it to your local food bank.    If we all do a little we can help to make Christmas happier for everyone.

SANTA CLAUS IS ON HIS WAY TO GLOSSOP

Santa will be arriving in Glossop at 6pm tomorrow night to help switch on the Christmas Lights, together with the Mayor of High Peak and a mystery guest!   He will also be at the Christmas Market all day on Saturday so be sure to come and pay him a visit.

TAKE THE STING OUT OF CHRISTMAS BY SHOPPING AT GLOSSOP OUTDOOR MARKET

All of the traders are looking forward to the Christmas market on Saturday and have worked hard alongside High Peak Borough Council to make it a day to remember for everyone.  The market will be packed with stalls selling everything you need to make your Christmas a happy and memorable one.  There will also be all day entertainment and free crafts for children.

We hope to see you all at the Christmas market and also at our general markets which are held every Friday and Saturday throughout the year, plus, Local Produce Markets every second Saturday of the month.  Please support your local market all year round.

Whilst the country is in the grips of the worst recession since the 1930's it makes good sense to shop at your local market where there are bargains to be had for all.  When money isn't as plentiful as we would like, especially at this time of year, don't cut corners on your festive food and drink, shop at the market where you will, on average, spend 33% less than you would at a big supermarket chain for the same goods.   Plus, money spent locally is more likely to be re-spent locally so you help to boost the local economy too!

At Glossop Outdoor Market we have a great range of stalls where you can shop for gifts for everyone on your list.  If you've got an avid reader on your list, Bookworm has thousands of nearly new books for you to choose from priced at just £1.00 each.  Brian's Bargains have scarves and gloves priced at £1.00 and Niche Markit have Disney scooters for £15.00.  Just a small example of the many bargains to be had.  If you're looking for something special to wear over the holidays pay a visit to Stephanie who has a range of designer items at prices to suit every pocket.  Looking for nibbles and other yummy things to eat, see Gill and Kevin who have a vast selection of festive food on offer.  Most of the food that they sell is top of the range supermarket seconds and isn't boxed but is excellent value non the less and is more environmentally friendly.  Dave Green at The Key Cabin has a selection of tools for the avid DIY addict and also wrist watches which always make a good gift.  If you're looking for jewellery, Val's Gems is the stall for you, all of the jewellery is handmade by Val who is an artisan of the highest calibre.  If you're looking for a present for your pet then why not pay Liz at the pet food cabin a visit and have a browse around.  For Christmas trees, wreaths and fruit and vegetables for the festive season, a visit to Adam Corbally's cabin is a must.  Adam offers free delivery locally too so you don't have to struggle with getting your goods home.  Free delivery is also offered by some of the other traders on the outdoor market too.

FOSBROOK WILL BE AT THE CHRISTMAS MARKET

Fosbrook Folk Education Trust will be at the Christmas market on Saturday.  This group of talented young ladies and gentlemen will be entertaining you with a selection of traditional clog dancing and music.  Fosbrook Folk Education Trust is run by Liza Austin who, for many years, has taught local children the art of traditional clog dancing and music to keep this North West tradition alive and to pass on skills to the next generation.  They will be performing in the marquee on the market ground from 2pm onwards.

BOBBY'S BANGERS WILL BE AT THE CHRISTMAS MARKET
