Buy and try a stall on Glossop's markets
FIRST timers will be allowed to experience what it is like to run their own market stall for a day later this month.
To encourage young people and new business start-ups in the market trade as part of National Markets Day and Love Your Local Market fortnight, High Peak Borough Council is offering new first-time traders a trestle stall for a day for only £10, subject to conditions and availability.
Cllr Godfrey Claff, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: ”This could be your first step in market trading! Glossop is a popular market town and, with the extra national promotion of the fortnight, you will have many potential customers to sell to. All you need to succeed is a product or service, a passion and a commitment to quality and customer service”.
Following the Mary Portas review last December which highlighted the importance of markets to the high street, the Love Your Local Market fortnight is being led by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) with the support of the National Market Traders’ Federation (NMTF).
The council will provide a ready-erected trestle stall for just £10 - and the NMTF will provide free public liability insurance for the day to booked stall holders, a mandatory requirement for all market traders.
All you need to do is to apply, get confirmation and then turn up on the day with £10 and your products, ready to sell.
To secure a stall, please email your full contact details and what you would like to sell to:markets@highpeak.gov.uk. Stalls and dates during the fortnight are subject to availability.
